DECLAWING CATS
Although controversial, we continue to offer declawing of the front feet for cats. It is done with a surgical CO2 laser. Here is some information with both pros and cons Typically, we find the cats do very well after their surgery and have few complications. The occasional cat may limp for 1-2 weeks post surgery or hold the paw up in the air. The more mature and heavier cats have a slower recovery due to the extra weight. All cats stay at least one night after the declaw procedure and some of the older or heavier cats stay for 2 nights. They are sent home with 10 days of pain medication and declaw litter Prices of Surgery ( effective Sept 1/2022) Declaw only (less than 1 year of age) $600 Declaw mature ( greater than one year of age) $700 Neuter/Declaw Immature $ 650.00 Mature $750 Spay/Declaw Immature $800.00 Mature $900.00 Benefits of Laser Declaw Surgery
During the laser declawing procedure, blood loss is minimal because nerves and blood vessels are automatically cauterized by the laser. The procedure also takes less time than traditional declawing and is a less invasive form of surgery. Drawbacks of Laser Declaw Surgery
Although the surgery takes less time and isn't as invasive, extreme pain and recurrent infections can still occur after the procedure is complete. Declawed cats may also experience long term muscle weakness in their legs, shoulders, and back. Additionally, declawed cats are virtually defenseless against dogs and other predators. They cannot fight back when threatened, climb trees to escape, and should be kept indoors for their own safety. Although we have not seen the above mentioned occur, it is still a known possibility and should be considered in your decision to declaw
